Hosts of the 2008 CMT Music AwardsBelmont Students love to hate the Country Music Television (CMT) Awards. They have been hosted in Belmont University’s Curb Event Center for the past two years, and despite the huge marketing and name recognition the school receives from hosting such an event, Belmont Students will have nothing to do with it. This is due mostly to the fact that during the week before and day of the event the campus is partially closed and parking on campus becomes more of a chore than usual. Each year the school tries to calm students via email telling them parking won’t be an issue, but Belmont Students know it’s going to be terrible and so because of this, they like to complain about the event and make Facebook groups about how they hate the CMT Awards (eg Protest the CMT Awards at Belmont, Students Against The CMT Music Awards at Belmont, and The CMT Awards are ruining my life!!!!!!). Unfortunately these groups seem to fall on deaf ears as again, this is the 3rd year the event is being held at Belmont. On the bright side, instead of Blue Collar Comedy Tour comedian Jeff Foxworthy, this year will be hosted by Billy and Miley Ray Cyrus. And seriously, who doesn’t like that pair?

There is a small percentage of Belmont Students that love the CMT Awards and will wait obscene amount of hours to get into the event. Note for those interested, a line is supposed to form on Bernard Ave. at 2pm on Sunday the 13th for wristbands, so show up with your Belmont University ID card and cross your fingers!

#1 Miss Tonya

\Belmont Students love Miss Tonya. Her “Hey Baby! How you doin’ today?!” greeting when you enter the caf brings joy to even the most depressed of students.  Many students who eat at the caf do not come for the food, but rather just for the 30 second to a minute interaction they have with Miss Tonya.  The encouragement they receive from her is akin to talking with Mom on Sunday afternoon, or receiving a care package full of jelly beans and a $20 bill.  Belmont Students feel they make an emotional connection with Miss Tonya and are devastated when Miss Tonya has the day off or is sick.  Without her, underclassman years are almost impossible.  In such a day when Miss Tonya is not present, students often seek consolation from Miss Shelly in the Curb Cafe. She’s great too, but she’s sure no Miss Tonya.
